Yaquina Art Association Spotlights Solveig Leslie and Luella Hartwell

YAA Spotlight

The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is pleased to announce a two week spotlight for artists, Solveig Leslie and Luella Hartwell from July 7-July 20.  The show will be at the YAA gallery located at 789 NW Beach Dr. off the Nye Beach Turnaround in Newport, Oregon.  The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily.

Artist Solveig Leslie says, “As a little girl, I would sit in the forest as my Dad taught me to paint. He helped me to see the trees with my heart as well as with my eyes. Today, as an old woman, that lesson is still with me.” Solveig will be showing her Watercolors and Oil Pastels. At almost 93 with failing eyesite her colors have become richer and bolder.  She expressed, “When I paint, I relate to 3 different issues: the visual image, my emotions and inner feelings evoked by that image, and the relationship of these to my painting. I also need to intellectually apply all my art learnings, a complicated process. But when they all fall into place, I feel a measure of success which I wish to share with you.”

Luella Hartwell is a true artist with watercolors and pastels as her main passion.  Her loose and free use of watercolors is often livened by India Ink. Often her pastels are large and show fine detail and amazing depth and color. Working from her own photographs she brings them to life in each work of art. The variety of style and technique make this show a must see for both of the artists. Luella shares her love for the arts by teaching classes in watercolor at both the Yaquina Art Association and the Artists Studio Association (in Lincoln City).

Luella Hartwell is closely associated with the Monday 9am – 11 am watercolor class and the Thursday 10 am to noon pastel class.  Other classes that are open to the public are Tuesday 9 am to 11 am oil and acrylic class, 1-3:30 pm china painting class, 12:30-3:30 pm clay class and Wednesday 9 am to 11:30 am color pencil/drawing class.  Anyone is invited to look in on these classes located upstairs in the Visual Art Center in Newport, Oregon. She is also teaching a watercolor class at ASA (which she is a member of) with stick, ink and liquid watercolors. It will be July 19th from 1-4 and it’s only $15.00 for the class, if anyone wants to sign-up they can drop by the ASA gallery and sign in the class book (located at 620 NE Hwy.101 in Lincoln City). Students must bring watercolors paper, and India Ink Luella will provide the liquid watercolors.
