Yaquina Art Gallery Pedestal Spotlight Show featuring the artwork of Angela Thomas – March 9th to March 22nd

YAA Spotlight

In a two week Pedestal Spotlight Show from March 9th to March 22nd, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring the artwork of Angela Thomas . The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day. Angela Thomas finds great joy and peace in painting. Many different mediums are used in her creations, whether oil, acrylic, and/or a combination of varied techniques. She has had fun with her mom creating art with Gourds, including some drum making. She loves painting in oils and had the joy of attending Creative Painting– Las Vegas and had the privileges of taking classes from amazing professionals.

She was born in El Paso, Texas at an Army Hospital, and raised in a suburb of Sacramento till she was eleven. Angela has always been drawn to travel and adventure. Having a vivid imagination as a young child, her paternal grandmother gave her art supplies including brushes, oils, and pastels. She started creating intuitively and just observed, grabbed colors, and put the brush to work.

Angela’s first class was in August of 2012 at the Charleston Fire Station with her teacher, Linda Luckini with Carousel of Colors, Toledo, Oregon. She attended every month or as much as she could. This class gave her the instruction of the how-to-do.

Retiring from teaching elementary school, many years ago, Angela was invited to join her artist friend, Nan Axelton, from North Bend, OR to paint with the Bay Area Artists Association Plein Air Group. The local artists she painted with were loving and kind and took her under their wings encouraging her, helping her, and most of all showing her compassion as she struggled with memory deficit and up and down times.

After moving to the Newport, Oregon area, she joined the Yaquina Art Association. Being a part of the Yaquina Art Association she is supported and encouraged in her growth as an artist. Angela enjoys learning wherever she can. She so appreciates the Yaquina Art Association for providing free art classes, where she has had the opportunity to try her hand using an acrylic medium for the first time.

In addition: there is a special display on our Spotlight walls for the whole month of March. Come see artwork created by local students from Sam Case Elementary in Newport, Newport Middle School, and Crestview Elementary in Waldport.
