YAA announces Glass Artisan Spotlight

YAA Spotlight

From June 19 through July 3rd there will be a beautiful Glass Artisan Display featuring the glass artistry of Mary Young at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport Oregon.  The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily located in the Nye Beach Historic District.

Mary Young has been creating glass art for nine years and loves the endless possibilities working with glass. The interest in glass fusing started with her Father, who bought a kiln to experiment with and it just took off from there: exploring, trying new techniques, and learning that mistakes can have interesting results.

“I love to experiment with color, be playful, create something beautiful and practical at the same time, make myself laugh with my creations, and simply have fun.”

Mary has lived in Newport since 2006, and has loved the Oregon coast from her childhood visits. She grew up in Seattle, WA and was always inspired by the art culture in the city. Pike Place Market is still one of her favorite places on earth.

She has been a member of the Yaquina Art Association since 2006 and has been proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the past few years. “I feel it’s important to give back to a wonderful organization like this.”

Under the name Whimsy Art Glass, Mary sells her glass work in the Newport Farmer’s Market, the Lincoln City Farmer’s Market, and the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Farmers Market.
