Spotlight on YAA Photographers

YAA Spotlight

Award winning photographers,  Laren Woolley and Ted Crego will be the featured artists for a two week show at the Yaquina Art Association from Aug. 10 through Aug. 23.  The show is located at the Yaquina Art Association gallery at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport Oregon.  The gallery, located in historic Nye Beach, is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily.

Laren Woolley loves being out in nature!  Perhaps as important for him as being there, is to take his camera and tripod to create fine art photography which captures the beauty that he sees in unique ways.  He also combines a love for hiking with many of his photographs, often hiking many miles to capture the beautifully unique and surreal.  He loves taking pictures of places here on the beautiful Oregon Coast as well as in other scenic places.  Laren recently returned from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks  in Wyoming where he took many photographs.  He will have a sample of those on display in his show.  He was often up early and out late to capture the early light which brings added peace, tranquility, and magic to these natural places. Wyoming holds a special place in his heart as he spent summers there every year as a child.

Laren has a growing number of award winning photographs and is often found scouting a location and then figuring out sunset and tides in order to be in a position to get the best shot.  He has been featured in magazines, won awards in the Columbia Council of Camera Clubs as well as taken top awards at the Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest and other shows.  He uses a high quality camera and loves to see his work printed BIG!  His work can be seen on his website at www.oregoncoastphotography.com, on the Bayfront at Wind Drift Gallery, in the Co-op Gallery in Lincoln City, Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach, and at the Newport Saturday Market.

Ted Crego was born and raised in Balwinsville, New York (near Syracuse) and then attended Alfred University and received his BS degree in Ceramic Engineering. He moved to Oregon in 1985 to work at Precision Castparts  as a Process Engineer, until he retired and moved to Newport in 2010.

Ted bought his first film SLR camera in 1970 and learned developing of black & white photos while in the military.  He developed  a better understanding and knowledge of photography while taking classes, seminars and workshops along with his wife (Kim Cuc Tran) at Tri-Community Photo Center and Tri-Community Photography Association in Covina, CA. His photo interests are varied, but Ted enjoys finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. Lately he hasbeen doing more panoramas and ‘high dynamic range’  photos. There is always something new to learn in photography. He and his wife enjoy taking vacations to places where they can enjoy doing photography.

Ted’s photographs have received awards in competition through the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association, Tri-Community Photo Center, Photographic Society of America, Tryon Creek Photo Club, Oregon State Fair Salon of Photography, and Columbia Council of Camera Clubs. He was previously been a member of Southern California Council of Camera Clubs (S4Cs) and Photographic Society of America (PSA). Ted serves as the current President of ‘Yaquina Art Association Photographers’ and stays very active in the community and assisting in the Yaquina Art Association, is a member of ‘After Light Photo Club’ and a member of the ‘Vietnamese Artistic Photography Association’.
