Two Week Spotlight Show with Luella Hartwell and Solveig Leslie

YAA Spotlight

There will be a two week spotlight show at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach with the art of Luella Hartwell and Solveig Leslie.  Their show will run from May 18 to May 31, 2013.  The show is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport and is open from 11 am to 4 pm.

Luella Hartwell is inspired by the challenge of depicting in her art, the beauty of nature that she sees all around.  She enjoys working from her own photos or working on location. She says the main reason she does art is an attempt to share, in a static form, the wonderful masterpieces created by the Master Artist. She will be showing watercolors, pastels and mixed media. Luella also enjoys sculpture and would like to do some larger, outdoor metal sculptures in the future.

Luella attended art classes at Portland Community College, Chemeketa Community College, and workshops given by Tony Couch, Judy Morris, Tom Allen, Jan Kunz and Harold Walkup.  She belongs to Yaquina Art Association, and Artists Studio Association.  She enjoys taking classes given by both of the associations to which she belongs. Luella Hartwell was born in Loma Linda, CA.  and raised in Eugene, Oregon.  She has lived in the Portland area and in Albany and now resides in Seal Rock.  She has enjoyed traveling across the continental United States and visited Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico. She loves her family and is the grandmother of 9 grandchildren. She enjoys traveling around the state of Oregon taking photos to use for her art.  Flowers, waterfalls, the ocean, and Oregon’s back roads and less traveled byways are among her favorites to visit. Still on her bucket list is a tour of Europe.

Solveig Leslie says her love of nature and the many years she spent traveling the world inspires her art.  She is still challenging herself to keep doing art in spite of losing her eyesight to macular degeneration. She works with oil pastels, watercolrs and mixed media as well as hand building with clay.  She was taught art as a young child by her father.  She took college classes in art.and attended workshops. She is coming up to her 94th birthday this year.

Solveig was born in Norway, lived in Europe, came to US as a child, and was raised in New York City.  She lived and taught school in California.  She has traveled to Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Europe, China, Central America, and all over the US.  She enjoys sharing her love of art and her knowledge with anyone who is interested in learning.
