Award Winners Announced

At an opening reception at the Yaquina Art Association 10th Annual Juried Art Show in Nye Beach, the award winners were announced by President, Doug Sheldon. First place winner went to Jim Adams from Corvallis, Oregon with his watercolor/graphite painting entitled “Cripes”. Jim wasn’t able to be at the opening reception but mentioned that he had spent over 200 hours in his painting. He was awarded $750 for his first place award.

Second place award went to Jami Segoria’s photograph titled, “Bow Bottom to Top. Jami said that to get this reflection shot of a bow of a ship at a harbor in Crescent City early in the morning that he bent way down to almost touching the water. Jami lives in Salem, Oregon and enjoys doing freelance photography while he is working in his MBA program in finance at Willamette University. Jami was awarded $500 for his photograph.

Third place winner was Chelsea Ray Legarde-Hull who entered her ink wash/mixed media drawing called “Looking East”. The picture is a historical drawing of the bayfront in Newport, Oregon depicting the bayfront from around 1912. She has enjoyed art all her life. She works at the Lincoln County Historical Society and is a student at Oregon Coast Community College while living here in Newport, Oregon. Chelsea was awarded $250 for her artwork.

The juror, Carolee Clark had her work cut out for her with many entries from all over the state. Carolee is a full time artist residing in Philomath, Oregon. People’s Choice award for $100 is yet to be determined by the public throughout the month of October. All of the artwork is for view or purchase at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery located at 789 NW Beach Drive, Newport, Oregon and is open from 11-4 pm daily. The public is invite to go in and vote for the People’s Choice Award now through the end of October.
