Awards presented for Yaquina Art Association Photographers

News & Events

The Yaquina Art Association Photographers have had a busy year that has paid off with awards both locally and at the Columbia Council of Camera Clubs (a group of photography clubs from part of 4 states including Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California).

An awards banquet was held recently to honor local award winners and participants in the YAAP.  Walt Duvall, president for the past two years awarded plaques and ribbons to the award winners as follows:

KimCuc Tran was awarded Photograph of the Year determined by a vote of the members taken from the top award winning images this year with her image Elegant Tulip.

There was a tie for the People’s Choice Award going to Dave Cook for Tulip Field Dawn and Sylvia A. Hosie for Midnight Dancer.

The high scoring images for Novice went to Cathy Fitzhugh for Pattern D, Jeff Cheever for Color in the Intermediate Division and a tie going to Carl Baker for Tillamook Lighthouse and Sylvia Hosie for I See You in the Advanced category.

Highest Average Score Awards went to Mark Svendsen, Jeff Cheever and Sylvia Hosie in the three divisions with honorable mentions going to John Lavrakas, Sheryl Eldridge and Carl Baker.

Most Improved Awards went to Melody Lavrakas, Jeff Cheever and Greg Henton in the three divisions.

The Yaquina Art Association Photographers also placed well in the Columbia Council Camera Club Convention held in North Bend in October. The group took first place in the Convention Electronic Image Division (EID).  JerriLynn and Laren Woolley took 2nd place in the Large Print Division with “In All Her Glory” and Honorable Mention in the small prints with Solar Eclipse competing against all the award winners for the entire year.  KimCuc Tran took Honorable Mention in the EID for Curved Succulent.  The YAAP was awarded 4th Place of all the clubs in the 2017/2018 Monthly EID competition (missing tying for 3rd by 1 point!).

The YAA Photographers meet at the library on the first and third Mondays at 7 pm in the downstairs classroom.  The group offers instruction and guidance to photographers of all levels of expertise on the first Mondays of the month.  They offer critique and competition opportunities on the third Mondays of the month. The public is invited to attend.
