Sheila Ping and Ilene Samowitz – YAA spotlight show July 18th – July 31st
Sheila Ping – “I grew up on the coast of Oregon in Coos Bay with a love of the outdoors and an appreciation of all it’s wonders. My parents encouraged the arts and the outdoors so I had a wonderful mix. I currently live in Waldport, but love to travel near and far. There is so much to see and explore, people, places and experiences. My photography encompasses all that I see. I am primarily a nature photographer and I love the patterns in nature, showing them off as abstracts or with ICM-intentional camera movement. I have recently been experimenting with infrared and enjoying the results. Always something new to see and learn as I continue to broaden my horizons.”

Ilene Samowitz – Ilene is a fine art photographer who captures unseen and altered realities using infrared, long exposure, macro, and black/white photography. As a geophysicist/geologist, their photographs reflect their love of waves, clouds, and landscapes. Their photographic art also plays an important part in documenting our too quickly changing landscapes, weather, flora and fauna.
Ilene began their photographic journey, shooting landscapes and doing black and white processing in the 80s, taking a composition class in renowned photographer Art Wolfe’s living room in 1985. Their photography has grown to blend their scientific, musical, and artistic interests, adding additionaldimensions and abstraction to the subject being captured.
Ilene has been showing work for decades and has won numerous awards. They live in South Beach on the central Oregon coast. Their work can be seen at Yaquina Arts Association, Pacific Artists’ Co-op Gallery, Artists’ Studio Association, Kiawanda Community Center, Florence Regional Artist Association, and member shows at the VAC and Lincoln City Community Center.

Yaquina Art Association gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive at Newport’s Nye beach. Open 11:00-5:00 pm daily.
