Yaquina Art Association Artist Showcase – May 24 to June 6, 2025 – Linda Devoy & Diane Pinizzotto
Linda Devoy’s Embellished Imagery
It all started when Linda Devoy visited a Beaverton restaurant as a teenager and was fascinated by a very large, framed Christmas tree made entirely from glittery jewelry which hung in the lobby. Fast forward decades until she was moved to make one of her own.
Each of her pieces is thoughtfully handcrafted. She uses vintage and costume jewelry and sometimes shells and other natural objects to refashion them into new visual pieces framed into shadowboxes that are ready to enjoy. Each one is the result of a careful selection of colors, shapes, and textural forms. She often further accents her work with custom vinyl cuts and selected background which complement the theme. The result is unique sparkling images that emerge from designs of octopuses, mermaids, turtles, pets, horses, musical instruments, and the occasional Sasquatch.
In addition to her framed art, Devoy also embellishes brand name, preowned handbags. Mostly sourced via online auctions, the handbags are cleaned/reconditioned/repaired then custom touches are added to enhance the overall style. As with her framed art, common themes are coastal, animals, western embellishments., She has been selling her work locally although her pieces often travel much further. Devoy has shipped her work as far as Hong Kong on calls for orders to complete someone’s home or as gifts.
She often draws from her curated collection of sparkling beads, baubles, and findings. Sometimes Devoy says she has an image in mind and sometimes a selection of the components suggests the direction and form. Commissioned pieces may include specific sentimental jewelry from the buyer. Whether it is one of her pieces of framed art or a customized handbag, you will find her special playful, whimsical side in play.
Diane Pinizzotto’s paintings often playful and filled with color. She has a strong beach and sea connection which is often evident in her work. Pinizzotto grew up with frequent trips to the southern California beaches where her social life was centered and continues as she divides her time between warm California sunshine and the seashore in Waldport.
She studied art and started painting with oils early in her life then stepped away to raise her children. Once again, Pinizzotto has picked up her brushes to create what comes to her imagination. Often it reflects sea and water creatures in whimsical way.
