YAA Spotlights Husband And Wife

YAA Spotlight

The Yaquina Art Association presents a two week Spotlight Show, starting June 25th through July 8th, of the works by Alana and John Williams.  The couple have been residents of Oregon for 27 years and have very diversified artistic talents.

Alana started with Decorative Painting becoming proficient enough to open her own studio and store in Albany in 1980.  She created her own wood pieces on the tools they had in a large workshop adjacent to the studio. Lana shifted to other medium after moving to Seal Rock in 2001.  She now does paintings in acrylics and watercolors.  She also creates her own ‘wood quilts’ that are unique 3-dimensional multi-medium artworks.  Her skills include crocheting and knitting where she makes hats, headbands and scarves to sell at the local markets and in the YAA Craft section.   She creates unique 3-dimensional wall hangings with local beach finds. Her paintings reflect the influence of the coast with many sea creatures and local attractions as subjects.

John  has been interested in photography since boyhood when he began taking photographs with his Kodak Brownie.  Later he upgraded to 35mm cameras and began processing his own films.  While in the USAF he upgraded his camera to a professional Nikon Ftn, the same camera that went into lunar orbit on Apollo missions.  After more camera updates and the conversion to digital processing he has now concentrated primarily on landscapes, birds and animals.  He controls the total process from taking the photo through digital processing and finally printing and mounting.

As a secondary interest, John also is an avid  Woodturner.  He has been turning for more than 30 years and many of his turnings are on display in the crafts section of the YAA gallery.  With his wife he displays and sells his photography and turnings in the YAA Gallery and at local outdoor markets on the Oregon coast.

The YAA gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport and is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm.
