Yaquina Art Association Pastel Artists are Spotlighted

YAA Spotlight

Feb. 6-Feb. 19, 2016 there will be a public spotlight show featuring the work of talented pastel artists at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery at 789 NW Beach Drive in Nye Beach.  The show will feature work by students in the YAA pastel class that meet on Thurs. mornings from 10 am to 12 noon.  The show is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily.

Pastel Classes range from 5 dedicated students up to 8 or more attending occasionally. ‘It’s a lightly structured class that attempts to bring back the carefree fun we all had while just simply drawing when we were kids, ” says instructor Charlotte Carter.  Anyone is welcome so stop by and check out the free classes offered to the community.

USA today mentioned one reason why people are enjoying art classes.  “When the going gets tough start coloring. Coloring not only evokes happy memories of childhood; the act can also foster a sense of well-being and offer a relaxing respite from our digital world. An accumulation of research shows that these creative activities can help you de-stress from everyday pressures. Recent studies suggest that structured, rhythmic endeavors such as coloring are particularly beneficial because they ease you into a meditative state of mind that allows you to push away negative thoughts and worries. “These activities engage your hands as well as your mind and your focus,” says art therapist Lacy Mucklow. “Plus, the repetitive actions release serotonin, the brain transmitter responsible for relaxation.” Nancy Monson, USA TODAY Best Years magazine November 14, 2015.
