Call for artists:

The Yaquina Art Association is looking for 10 artists who would like to participate in an Art Doors Community Project.  The artists would head up an Art Door project working with local youth from low income homes to create the door that would be auctioned off this summer to raise money.  The purpose is to give less fortunate children a chance to shine as they combine efforts with an artist to create something that will be useful and beautiful. You don’t have to be a great artist to be great at this project.  Having a vision and guiding children as they create is a large part of this experience.

Funding for the door and supplies will come out of a grant so there will be no out of pocket  expenses to the artist. Ten percent goes back to YAA for funding more art education and the rest goes back into the next year’s door project as the grant only funds the first years’ expenses.  Doors that have been created have been anything from painted, collaged, appliqued, etc.  If you are interested in finding out more contact Ken Hartwell, YAA president at 541-563-6674/ hartwell@peak.org. This project began 14 years ago and is spreading across the nation.
