YAA Spotlight

A new exhibit of paintings and photography by Charlotte Carter and Ted Crego will be featured in a Spotlight Show at the Yaquina Art Association (YAA) from Aug. 22 through Sept. 8. The YAA gallery is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport and is open daily 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Charlotte Carter has been a working artist most of her life. Now she is a longtime member of the Yaquina Art Association and teaches an ongoing Pastel Class at the Newport Visual Arts Center on Thursday mornings from 10 to 12 noon.

Her paintings of fruits, flowers and the ocean scenes are shown in temporary moments using highlights, shadows, reflections and patterns. They are painted using watercolors or pastels.

She has a BS in Design from the University of Michigan and has worked in a variety of artist fields. Charlotte formerly worked as a technical illustrator, a graphic artist, a book illustrator and designer for the scientific, medical and engineering industries, and for educational television and advertising. As a hobby she has also been a potter and sculptor. Her art has been exhibited in Michigan, California, Florida, Texas, Mississippi and American Samoa.

Ted Crego is currently retired and having fun exploring his hobby of photography with his wife Kim.They enjoy taking vacations to places where they enjoy doing photography.Ted says, “My photo interests are varied, but I enjoy finding images that others may overlook, such as patterns and macro shots. Lately,  I have been doing more panoramas and ‘high dynamic range’  photos. There is always something new to learn in photography including all of the software programs.”

Ted’s photographs have received awards in competition through the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association, Tri-Community Photo Center, Photographic Society of America, Tryon Creek Photo Club, Oregon State Fair Salon of Photography, and Columbia Council of Camera Clubs and Yaquina Arts Association Photographers.

Ted is President of  Yaquina Art Association Photographers  and  a member of Columbia Council of Camera Clubs and Photographic Society of America. The YAAP meets on the first and third Mondays at 7 pm in the Visual Art Center upstairs classroom.  You can check out YAAP photo club at  YAAPhotographers.org.
