Yaquina Art Association Artist Showcase

YAA Spotlight

Shirley Steinhauer, Karen Robnett, Linda Evans

August 30 – September 12, 2025

Shirley Steinhauer grew up in Oregon and was an artist from the first breathe she ‘drew’.        She always said that art really does save lives and she saw it working in others, saying it is not just a tag line.  She taught watercolor classes through YAA at the Senior center.  Not only did she teach  but she was always learning herself. She immersed herself in YAA as president for many years  then became a board member.  She encouraged and enjoyed watching others react to art.

Unfortunately she passed away in February of this year but she will have a memory wall with some of her pictures at the show.

Karen Robnett has enjoyed art from a young age just as her mother,  Shirley, did. Early works were in the form of school and book reports. She enhanced them with her drawings.  She enjoys cartoon illustrations,  colored pencils,  pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, painting furniture, tole   painting, home design, mosaic, quilting, and so much more. She teaches a drawing class and a colored  pencil class at the Senior Center. Karen will be showing some of her Grandchildren’s   talent as well in “MiMi’s Minions” corner.  They are 6 and 9 and love to make art too.

Linda Evans, Shirley’s 2nd daughter, will also be hanging  some of her pictures that she has been working on.   Most of her techniques were taught to her by Karen in her classes. Like her mother and her sister, Linda likes almost all mediums but her favorites are  colored pencils,  graphite, charcoal, pen and ink, and watercolor.  She is relatively new at making art and attributes having the time because of retirement, 3 years ago.

All 3 artists are in awe of our local talent, and you will be too when you visit our gallery.  If you have a moment while you are there, please stop by our spotlight.  We would love to see you.
