Yaquina Art Association Artist Showcase

YAA Spotlight

Herb Kateley & John Parulis

October 25 – November 7, 2025

Herb W Kateley is an art, nature, and documentary photographer living and practicing photography on the Oregon coast. He uses various cameras, old and new, film and digital, selected for purpose, convenience and mood. His work in this YAA Gallery show falls into a few recognized categories, which are Landscape, Nature, Abstract, Still Life, and Documentary. Mr. Kateley grew his serious photographic journey on the western plains of Nebraska before returning many years ago to the Oregon coast. Inspiration for his work comes from many photographic artists both historic and current. The artist enjoys employing both modern and traditional techniques, occasionally blended, in image creation.

John Parulis I am a painter, photographer, graphic artist, videographer and skilled craftsman. My art has been exhibited in galleries in Florida, Healdsburg California, the Geyserville Sculpture Trail, Santa Rosa’s Paradise Ridge Winery, Burning Man and now at The Yaquina Art Association. As part of San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum’s series, “Yoga: The Art of Transformation”, I gave a presentation on “Art and Activism”.

I currently reside in Waldport, close to the Alsea River.

Creating art is a discovery process for me. As I enter into the act of creation, I bring awareness of who I am and where I’ve traveled, on the most important voyages, the ones inside. I’m never quite sure what the outcome will be, because the process is evolutionary. Underlying all of this is a simple love for life. The Oregon Coast and Siuslaw National Forest are endless inspirations for my photography, both on the land and in the sky.

The Yaquina Art Association Gallery a 501c3 is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 4 pm every day.
