Wong and Johnston Featured Artists at YAA Gallery

YAA Spotlight

The Yaquina Art Association will spotlight two artists March 3 to March 16, 2012 at the Yaquina Art Gallery in Nye Beach.  The gallery, located at 789 NW Beach Drive is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily.

Judy Wong was born and raised in Denver, Colorado.  She moved to Oregon in 1988 and pretty much never left. She lives in Gleneden Beach with her husband, Bill.  Judy loves the ocean and all kinds of water, thus her paintings reflect this in her use of watercolor as a medium to paint water scenes as well as flowers, trees, gardens, mountains and all the other treasures of Mother Nature. Judy began painting some 20 years ago under the tutelage of a very fine artist, Jude Welter in Oregon. She has attended many workshops from some of the best artists in the U.S. and is a perpetual student “because I glean so much from my teachers and fellow students- not only in art, but in life as well”. She loves walking on the beach most days along with gardening and some occasional golf outings.

Beth Johnston was born in Hood River, Oregon but always wanted to live at the coast, so she was thrilled when her husband obtained a teaching position in Lincoln County. While a music education major at the University of Oregon she enjoyed film photography as a hobby, and in 2001 she was introduced to digital photography. Three of her photos won awards at the 2008 Lincoln County Fair. She enjoys photographing the wonders of everyday nature and sharing them with others. Most of her photos are taken during twice-daily walks with her lively Catahoula-mix dog, which is learning to hold still when it’s time to click the shutter. As they explore the water features and trails in the area, the dog stops frequently to sniff, thus giving Beth the opportunity to also stop and see the “small stuff” in nature that might otherwise be overlooked. She is especially hooked on photographing birds, capturing them in flight or other unique situations. She is a member of the YAA Photography Club.
