YAA Spotlight

In a two week Spotlight Show from July 15th to July 28th, the Yaquina Art Association will be featuring photographer Kim Cuc Tran, watercolor artist Jeff Bertuleit, and jewelry designer Linda Cline. The Yaquina Art Association Gallery is located in Nye Beach at 789 NW Beach Drive. Hours of operation are 11 am to 5 pm every day.

On the West Spotlight Wall: Kim Cuc Tran was born and raised in Vietnam, then escaped the communist by boat to Malaysia in 1980, and immigrated to the US in 1981. She graduated at Cal State University of Long Beach with a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1986. Her engineering career led her to West Linn, Oregon in 2001. She and her husband retired and moved to Newport in 2009.

Photography has been a hobby and interest in her life. Her photography skill flourished as she started taking photography classes with the Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association in 1993. Then advanced furthermore as she continued on at Tri-Community Photography School in California for 5 more years.

The process of capturing an image is so fulfilling and enjoyable to her. She and her husband both enjoy going out looking for an inspiring shot. They have been traveling for photography to many locations in the US and to other countries including Canada, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan, Peru, New Zealand, Mexico, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, China and Tibet.

She enjoys shooting abstracts, close-ups, birds and flowers; and then creates artistic photos to share with the viewers. Her mantra for photography is “Simplify, simplify, simplify”. This mantra has served her well in the process of capturing and creating inspiring images.

She has received numerous awards in photography competitions at Vietnamese Artistic Photographic Association, Tri-Community Photo School, Photographic Society of America, Oregon State Fair Salon of Photography, and Columbia Council of Camera Clubs.

She is an active member of Yaquina Art Association Photographers.

On the East Spotlight Wall: Jeff Bertuleit enjoys both watercolor and oil painting. He has been painting for the past 20 years and has enjoyed combining travels to Europe and Hawaii with his art. He also enjoys painting ocean scenes plein air. Bertuleit is a member of the Yaquina Art Association and has served as president of the group in the past.

On the Spotlight Pedestals: The natural beauty of the Oregon Coast has been influencing Linda Cline’s jewelry creations for the past 16 years. “I see color everywhere and it inspires me to try new combinations of gems and Swarovski crystals”, says the artist. Designing jewelry is a real pleasure, and having return customers is even more satisfying. Her focus is beaded jewelry including: earrings, bracelets, anklets, and necklaces.

Linda is originally from Southern California where she taught English to students of other languages. Her teaching background has helped her jewelry business in that she has the ability to really listen to what her customers want.

20 years ago, Linda and her husband moved to the Oregon Coast and have not looked back. She started her jewelry business, The Bead Chicas, in 2001 and has since vended at the Newport Seafood and Wine Festival for the past 11 years, had wholesale accounts, consignments, and displayed her jewelry in the YAA Gallery in Newport & the PAA Gallery in Lincoln City. She also is a vendor at the Newport Farmers Market, the Lincoln City Farmers and Crafters Market, and the Gleneden Beach Farmers Market.

Linda is an active member of the Yaquina Art Association, and has served as one of the 3D Art Chairpersons for the last 2 years.
