YAA Spotlight

This month’s Yaquina Arts Association spotlight features block prints and drypoint etchings by Jane Hodgkins as well as paintings by Linda Roggenburg.  The show runs from Oct. 1-15 at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach.  Open from 11 -4 pm daily, the public will have a chance to look at over 30 colorful prints created in the past year by Jane Hodgkins and  beautiful paintings from around the world painted by artist Linda Roggenburg.

Just over a year ago, Hodgkins retired Oregon Coast Community College.  The week after retiring she returned to the college as a student in the printmaking class.  The printmaking process begins by carving an image into linoleum or scratching an image into a plexiglas plate.  Then the fun of choosing the paper to print on, the ink, and even the means of transferring the ink onto the paper begins.  The possibilities are endless and the results often surprising.  “It’s an absolute joy to experiment and see what come out” according to Hodgkins. Hodgkins would like to thank Julia Pence and Helen Ichien Abe, printmaking instructors at Oregon Coast Community College for their instruction, guidance, and encouragement.

Linda Roggenburg has been painting, exhibiting, and selling her art ever since studying architecture at the University of Oregon.  She enjoys experimenting, using traditional materials impulsively, to create impressions of a scene or subject.  She also likes to travel and has been fortunate enough to teach watercolors on cruise ships.  She tells her passenger students that she is a Master of Fun Art.   Her show this October includes both large canvases of Newport scenery, and smaller framed works of a variety of media, painted during her travels.  She also continues to design houses here in Newport.
