Two week Artisan Spotlght show featurining the glasswork of Artisan Mary Young

YAA Spotlight

There will be a two week Artisan Spotlight show featuring the glasswork of Artisan Mary Young from June 21 through July 4th, 2014.  The show will be at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport Oregon. The gallery is open from 10-5 pm daily.

Mary Young loves happy things. Her best work makes her smile or laugh, and in turn makes others smile and laugh too. She is inspired in a big way by nature and animals.Playing and experimenting with color is a huge part of her glass work as well. Mary finds joy in creating color combinations that just sing together. She also loves the sublime result of creating monochromatic art pieces.  Mary loves the beauty of glass and its infinite variety of uses and techniques.  She loves doing fused glass artwork.  She has always loved and have been inspired by the art world and the artists that make wonderful handmade pieces of art.

Mary stumbled upon fused glass when her Father purchased a kiln. She started experimenting and realized all the amazing things she could do with glass. She is a member of the Yaquina Arts Associaton and has been on the Board of Directors for several years.” It’s a great organization of dedicated artists and continues to be a fun and rewarding experience”, says Mary.

Mary grew up in Seattle, Washington, and loved going to the Pike Place Market as much as possible. It was where my love of Farmers markets, art, and coffee began. She lived in Vancouver, Washington and Portland, Oregon before escaping the big city to move to the coast 7 years ago and loves the slower pace on the coast and the wonderful community of artists that live here.

Mary’s artwork can be seen at the Newport Farmers Market, the Lincoln City Farmers Market, and the Lincoln County Fairgrounds Farmers Market in Newport.  She sells her glass at the Yaquina Art Gallery,  Sparks Gallery in Depoe Bay and Ocean Beaches Glassblowing & Gallery. She has an Etsy shop at whimsyartglass.etsy.com and pictures of more of her artwork can be seen on her Facebook Page: Whimsy Art Glass-Newport, Oregon.
