Photographers Sherrie Powell and Donna McCoy Featured Artists

YAA Spotlight

Photographers Sherrie Powell and Donna McCoy will be featured artists at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach from July 27 through Aug. 9.  The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily and is located at 789 NW Beach Drive in Newport, Oregon.

Sherrie Powell became interested in photography while assisting her father in his photographic business and working in his darkroom over 50 years ago. Now she captures images and processes them in a digital lightroom. She says, “Photography has undergone dramatic changes since the introduction of digital technology. One of the biggest changes is that we no longer need to wait until we process the film to see our images.”

Watching the changing light and how it transforms the appearance of two dimensional subjects to sculptures fascinates Sherrie. Its evident in her images that she sees light. Her joy is found in natural surroundings and the beauty of the world around us. Capturing the beauty in everyday subjects is also a favorite pursuit. As you view her images she hopes to convey the feeling in the moment she clicked the shutter. Most of her photography is shot in and around the Pacific Northwest. She is currently a member of the Yaquina Arts Association, Yachats Arts Guild, Nature Photographers of the Pacific Northwest, and The Lincoln City Farmers Market Association. You can also view her work on her website at: http://www.sherriepowellphotography.com

Donna McCoy can be found out in tidepools at low tide photographing anything from beautiful jellies to sea slugs (nudibranchs).  She finds these tiny creatures with their intricate details and transforms them into art for someones home.  She is a member of the Yaquina Art Association and is one of over 30 members of the co-op gallery in Lincoln City where she is also the bookkeeper for the Pacific Artist Alliance.  She has a cheerful disposition and is excited to share her talent and discoveries with everyone.
