Jo-Hanna Wienert and June Ambrosek Spotlight Show
Two talented artists join for a two week spotlight at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach from Sept. 4-17th. June Ambrosek will show her watercolors and Jo_Hanna Wienert will present her photography during the gallery's normal hours of 11 am to 4 pm daily. The gallery is open to anyone who wants to come and enjoy the art as well as the craft and card section of the gallery. The gallery walls change monthly as well as the center "spotlight" sections that change every two weeks.
Jo-Hanna Wienert is an award winning fine art landscape photographer who has recently expanded her talents by taking on architectural photography assignments also. She has discovered that taking pictures of buildings can be a lot of fun. "People don't realize how interesting structures can be when viewed from certain perspectives or at times when one doesn't ever see the buildings. (Such as at 4am in the morning with no cars or people around or at sunrise when the street lights are still on for that last moment before they turn off for the daylight.) Also, buildings don't move or blink or blow in the wind, which can be a definite plus!"
Landscape shots are still her favorite and will be exhibited also. She laughs at this thought,
remembering as a child while watching her Dad's old time projector slideshows, that she often complained about there being "nothing but scenery in these pictures!"
JoHanna also does photo restoration, transformation, color correction, colorization and occasional portraits and events.
June Ambrosek found her hidden artistic talent when she joined the Yaquina Art Association. Her previous art experience includes high school watercolor and drawing classes and oil painting classes at Lane Community College. After moving to Yachats, the unique beauty of the Oregon Coast prompted her to start painting seascapes and the flowers in her garden.
The Monday morning watercolor group, where members paint (located above the Visual Art Center) and then have a friendly critique at the end of each session has been both an inspiration and a great learning experience for June. She very much appreciates the benefits of being a member of the Yaquina Art Association and for its commitment to education and the furthering of the arts in Lincoln County.

My classes have included one digital photography intro and 1 1/2 years of clay/ceramics from YAA, all since retiring three years ago. I am planning a full-sized driftwood horse and collecting the "parts" right now." His driftwood fish are showing in the YAA Gallery and in the new Teak 'n' More shop on Highway 101. Mark Cheney also enjoys the Ancient Maya, as reflected in some of his clay work. He will have a clay mask shown in his exhibit. Yaquina Art Association Gallery to feature Elizabeth Atly and Jeff Bertuleit
The art of Elizabeth Atly and Jeff Bertuleit will be shown from Aug.7 through August 20 at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery in Nye Beach. The gallery is open from 11 am to 4 pm daily and located at 789 NW Beach Drive next to the Visual Art Center.
Elizabeth Atly moved to Newport in 2007. Her art includes working briefly in glass-blowing -- a thrilling, athletic and dangerous creative process -- and soon transitioned to the safer, more sedentary art of glass fusion, which she thoroughly enjoys, seeing endless possibilities for combining color and form.
She pursued sequential advanced degrees and careers in French and Architecture, always nurturing her photographic passion on the side.
After apprenticing through various architect offices in Seattle and Portland she began taking in work on her own, as a self-employed residential remodeling designer. Most challenging and inspiring to her has been improving on existing spaces, both residential and commercial -- "turning sow's ears into silk purses".
Since moving here, Atly has exhibited work in the following places: Nye Beach Gallery, Canyon Way Books, For ArtSake Gallery, Yaquina Art Association gallery, Visual Arts Center, Halcyon Gallery, FantasTeak Furniture, the Art Market, Cannon Beach Art Center, Ocean View Senior center, the Sylvia Beach Hotel; and the Chessman Gallery in the Lincoln City Cultural Center. She will be displaying both photography and glass art.
Jeff Bertuleit enjoys both watercolor and oil painting. He has been painting for the past 20 years. He has enjoyed combining travels to Europe and Hawaii with his art. Jeff also enjoys painting at scenic locations and recently participated with 80 other artists painting ocean scenes plein air. He plans to display some of that plein air painting in his two week spotlight show. Jeff is an active member of the Yaquina Art Association and has served for the previous two years as the YAA president.

Two Artists Share Spotlight Show In Yaquina Art Association Gallery

Barbara Erwin
"Where the spirit and hand do not work together, there is no art," painter Barbara Erwin shares that her artwork comes from a spiritual place.
Barbara owned and operated her own gallery for 17 years. Bad health caused her to slow down and rest for a while. Now she is back into full swing with paintbrush and palette in hand, and "ideas coming out of my ears," she says. "Finding time to paint now is my biggest obstacle."
Barbara resides in Otis, Oregon with her husband of 52 years, Gary, and little dog Missy.
Barbara is currently a member of the Yaquina Art Association and the Pacific Artists Alliance gallery in Lincoln City. Barbara paints in all mediums, but her favorite is oils and watercolors.
A collection of Barbara's favorites will be on display at the Yaquina Art Gallery in Nye Beach (541-265-5133), March 20 through April 1. The artist will be at the gallery to visit with visitors from 11-4, March 23. She will also have prints and cards available for sale along with signed originals.
Elinor de Sosa
"What is an artist to do? She moves to the coast, hikes the beach, picks up the trash, and then, what to do with all those lost socks that accumulate? " says Elinor de Sosa.
And so came about "Sock Heaven", "Sock it to 'em Mr. President", "Socked In" and many other related "sock paintings". Please come and enjoy the whimsicality as much as the artist, Elinor de Sosa, did in the making. The pictures can be viewed at the Yaquina Art Association Gallery located at 789 NW Beach Drive, Newport, Oregon in the Nye Beach Turnaround from March 20-April 1, 2010
